Sometimes the only thing that stands in the way of a good portrait being a great portrait is the Photoshop retouching. A good portrait artist wants to both please the client and provide their best product…both easily accomplished by mastering the tools available in today’s digital world. In this class you will learn everything from the basics to the advanced while having hands-on instruction with both provided images and your own photography.
Register Now!Working in Adobe Photoshop, this class will cover basic retouching techniques including blemish removal, dark eye circles, wrinkle softening, hot spots, eye enhancement, removing stray hair and teeth whitening. More advanced procedures will include glass glare, opening eyes, neck and jowl slimming, clothing and background issues and an introduction to plug-in filters for glamour effects. We will also explore the philosophy of “what to retouch” and “what to leave alone” while learning how to maintain the integrity of the photograph. And don’t forget our ongoing student support.

This class assumes you have working knowledge of computers and operating systems. It is assumed you know how to use your mouse, the standard menu and commands and how to open and save files. If you are bringing your own computer, make sure you have the version software that is being taught in the class. In the event that you are not knowledgeable in the use of computers, the instructor will not be able to take time away from the other students to teach you. One-on-one tutoring is available for a fee.
Beyond general computer knowledge, you MUST have a basic working knowledge of Photoshop with Photoshop CS3 or later installed if you are providing your own computer. A Wacom tablet (providing touch sensitivity) is a nice compliment to your computer when retouching, but not required. Images will be provided, however we do encourage students to bring some images to work on. Be prepared to share them with the instructor.
