Photographing Building Interiors and Exteriors with Your Digital Camera

We’ll start with what we call the photographer’s toolbox. You probably already have a digital camera or are considering getting one soon. We’re going to help you get the most out of your camera by helping you understand the controls and let you know about a few inexpensive tools that will help you get better results immediately.

Understanding how your camera works is the key to getting the most out of it. If you’re putting the camera on “P” and hoping for the best and not always getting it, we’ll help you solve that problem. Cameras are very simple devises. Unfortunately, in order to make them EASY to use, the manufacturers have made them more complicated. We’re going to clear that up for you.

The process of taking good building photos is easy. You’ll learn the six steps to getting the best shot. Lighting, composition and the creative process will be discussed.

Digital darkroom is a big part of creating and enhancing great architectural images. We’ll introduce you to Photoshop CS2 by showing you some enhancements you can use to make your pictures shine. From getting rid of fire hydrants to putting puffy white clouds in a clear blue sky.

Workflow and image management. Keeping track or all those photos can be a daunting task. There are some wonderful, inexpensive tools to help you organize and share your photos with others.

Preparing for your photoshoot is probably the single most important key to taking good pictures. A good professional photographer will always get ready for the shoot. We’ll share our “check list” with you.

Good exterior photos will no longer be a challenge. Getting a great picture is more than showing up with a camera on a pretty day. Learn how to get dramatic representations of buildings that will get your clients’ attention.

Show interiors in their best light. Preparing the space and using the available light are important in capturing good interior images. Good results can be obtained without a ton of professional lighting equipment. If time allows, we’ll take some pictures, so bring a camera if you like.

Expect the unexpected. After years of taking architectural interiors and exteriors, John will share his experiences with you. After hearing stories about the rusty truck and the florist, you’ll understand that a lot of patience goes a long way when it comes to getting a great photo.
